Bronwynne Brent Trio
Friday March 24, 2017
This session has passed.
Mississippi Delta songbird, Bronwynne Brent returns to these shores having entranced the UK on her last visit.
Now established as a major force, Bronwynne ended 2016 on a high, carrying off the Best Female Performer title (voted by the general public) at the hugely-influential AmericanaUK website for the second year running.
Her spine-tingling vocal style has been compared to Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Amy Winehouse – a remarkable singer-songwriter who simply oozes class. Bob Harris, playing tracks repeatedly on his BBC Radio 2 show told listeners her music is “absolutely gorgeous – really special!”
She was flown in for headline appearances at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival last year and recorded a BBC studio session at Whispering Bob’s invitation.
This time, she brings her illustrious producer and highly-rated guitarist Johnny Sangster over from the USA to accompany her, and top bass player Jay Darwish completes the trio. Sangster played on both of Bronwynne’s last albums and has recently toured with both KD Lang and Neko Case, and Darwish is heavily in-demand too, having worked with musicians of the calibre of Sting and Newton Faulkner.
